   We began last week an advent series on Mary, the mother of Jesus. We noticed that Mary was a simple peasant girl growing up in the unimportant village of Nazareth, yet for all her simplicity she had a profound commitment to the God of Israel. Scripture gives us a portrait of one who willingly and joyfully yielded herself to the will of God in spite of what it might cost her. What a challenge that is to our own faith and surrender.
   This Sunday we will see that Immediately after the visitation of the angel, Mary hurried off to visit Elizabeth. The angel had mentioned that her cousin Elizabeth had conceived a child in her old age, and Mary immediately went to someone who would understand what she was going through and with whom she could share her journey. And I believe that is a tremendous example for each one of us in our Christian life.
   Certainly, the church is not a perfect place and sometimes people are hurt by others in the church, yet God puts us in relationship to one another for a purpose because we really do need one another and Mary is a great example of reaching out for community.  Mary was not willing to go it alone, she needed the help of others. We too need one another.
   Dimanche dernier nous avons débuté notre série de l’Avent avec Marie, la mère de Jésus. Nous avons remarqué qu’elle n’était qu’une simple paysanne ayant grandit dans une petite ville sans importance du nom de Nazareth. Cependant, malgré sa simplicité, elle était profondément dévouée au Dieu d’Israël. Les Écritures nous dressent le portrait d’une personne consciemment et joyeusement soumise à la volonté de Dieu en dépit de ce que cela pourrait lui coûter. Quel défi pour notre foi et notre abandon de soi.
   Ce Dimanche nous verrons qu’immédiatement après la visite de l’ange, Marie s’est précipitée chez Elizabeth. L’ange mentionna que sa cousine Elizabeth avait conçu un enfant malgré son âge avancé, et Marie s’empressa d’aller vers celle qui pourrait comprendre sa situation et avec qui elle pourrait entreprendre ce voyage. Je crois que ceci est un excellent exemple pour chacun d’entre nous dans notre vie Chrétienne.
   L’Église n’est certainement pas parfaite et il nous arrivent de nous blesser les uns les autres, cependant Dieu nous donna les uns aux autres pour une raison, parce que nous avons besoin l’un de l’autre et Marie est ici un très bon exemple d’appel à la communauté.  Marie ne voulait pas affronter cela seule, elle avait besoin de l’aide d’autrui. Nous avons aussi besoin de cette aide.
