We are in a short series of messages where we are looking together at the importance of Pentecost in the role of the early church. The first two chapters of Acts tell us about Jesus’ ascension to heaven, the outpouring of his Holy Spirit and the birth of the church, how and why it came into existence.
Last week we looked at the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost and how the Spirit’s coming brought into birth the church. When the HS came, a group of fearful confused disciples became the foundation stones of the church. Paul tells us in Ephesians that the church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone and that we are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
So the HS came and the church was born. Then the conclusion of chapter two gives us a resume of what was important to this early church. They devoted themselves to four things. What are they? And can we be devoted to the same things? Let’s see.
Nous suivons une série de messages à propos de l’importance de la Pentecôte dans le rôle de l’Église primitive. Les deux premiers chapitres du livre des Actes nous narrent l’ascension de Jésus aux cieux, le don de l’Esprit Saint et la naissance de l’Église, comment et pourquoi existe t-elle.
La semaine dernière nous avons vu l’arrivée de l’Esprit Saint le jour de la Pentecôte et comment cela a fait naître l’Église. Lorsque l’Esprit Saint est venu, un groupe de disciples effrayés est devenu la pierre angulaire de l’Église. Paul nous dit dans l’épître aux Éphésiens que l’Église est bâtie sur la fondation des apôtres et des prophètes, avec Jésus Christ lui-même en tant que pierre d’achoppement et qu’ensemble, nous devenons la demeure de l’Esprit de Dieu.
L’Esprit Saint est donc venu puis l’Église est née. Le chapitre deux se conclue sur un résumé de ce qui était important pour cette église primitive. Ils se dévouèrent à quatre choses. Lesquelles ? Et comment pouvons-nous nous dévouer aux même choses ? Voyons cela ensemble.
