Very often we downplay the Lord’s Prayer as a simple, childlike prayer for those who haven’t become mature enough to talk to God without a form. We sometimes look down on churches where they recite the prayer ritualistically, as if the prayer had no real value. And while it is true that Jesus never intended to give the disciples a prayer to repeat without thinking, he did tell his followers, “This, then, is how you should pray;â€
God came to earth and put on our skin to walk with us and to teach us, and this God says this is how are to talk to our Father. Jesus gives us a form for prayer designed to help us center on him, focus and meditate on the things that will bring us back to Father and our place in his kingdom.
This next Sunday we will talk, sing and meditate through the six themes Jesus gives us in the prayer: the Father’s character, the Father’s Kingdom, the Father’s provision, the Father’s forgiveness, the Father’s guidance and the Father’s protection. Then we’ll see how this model for prayer the Lord has given us can be used to take our prayer lives into depths we have not known.
Très souvent nous réduisons le Notre Père à une simple prière enfantine pour ceux qui ne seraient pas assez mûrs pour parler à Dieu sans un modèle. Parfois nous regardons d’un peu haut les églises qui récite cette prière rituellement, comme si elle n’avait pas de réelle valeur. Et bien qu’il soit vrai que Jésus n’a jamais eu l’intention de donner à ses disciples une prière à répéter sans y penser, il leur a certainement dit: “Voici comment vous devez prier;â€
Dieu est venu sur la Terre se faisant chair pour marcher parmi nous et nous enseigner, et ce Dieu nous dit que c’est ainsi que nous devons communiquer avec notre Père. Jésus nous donne un modèle de prière conçue pour nous concentrer sur Lui, pour méditer sur les choses qui nous ramènerons au Père et à notre place dans son royaume.
Ce Dimanche nous parlerons, chanterons et méditerons à travers six thèmes donnés par Jésus dans cette prière: La personnalité du Père, Son royaume, Sa providence, Son pardon, Sa direction et Sa protection. Puis nous verrons comment ce modèle de prière donné par notre Seigneur peut être utilisé pour faire évoluer nos vies de prière dans des profondeurs jusqu’ici inconnues.
