Last word on prayer! (Rev. 8 & 9)

When the seventh seal is opened, there is silence in heaven for half an hour.  A climax has been reached.  The silence amazes us, after seals being opened that spoke of unspeakable evils, conflicts raging between good and evil, then being brought up to the very end already at the close of chapter 6 where it seemed that what was being described in verses 12 – 17 were the very end of the age and the coming of Christ.

When you read these passages, you can almost be overwhelmed by the destruction and judgments that are happening on the earth. But remember, this is symbolic language for cataclysms in nature and war and destruction on the earth.  It is also important to notice that while God is allowing these judgments and cataclysms, He is not causing them.

But when we see all this destruction and evil what can we do?  What can we do about these judgments and this destruction? Revelation 8 & 9 tell us what we can do. We can pray! “Wait a minute,” you say.  “I was hoping for something more practical,” but let’s look at what Revelation 8 & 9 teach us about the role of prayer in a world of injustice and conflict.
