   A lot of Christians have trouble understanding the Holy Spirit. We identify with God as a Father because we all had fathers. Even if our father was not a positive role model we all have a vision of what a good father is and the Bible tells us that God is a Father who loves us and loves to give good gifts to his children.
   We can all also identify with Jesus because he became a man. We see him healing and ministering with compassion wherever he goes. We can picture his kindness, love and his willingness to go to the cross for us.
   But when we come to the third person of the Trinity; the Holy Spirit, we are not so sure. What makes matters worse, the old King James Bible translated the verses that talk about the Holy Spirit with the phrase “Holy Ghost.â€Â This makes the Spirit sound scary and spooky.
   In the creed we declare, “I believe in the Holy Spirit.â€Â What does it mean to believe in the Holy Spirit? Who is he and how do we relate to the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us that he would send “another advocate to be with us forever.â€Â What does it mean that the Holy Spirit is our advocate who lives in each believer?
   Bon nombre de Chrétiens peinent à comprendre qui est l’Esprit Saint. Nous identifions Dieu comme notre Père car nous avons tous un père. Même si notre père n’est pas toujours un modèle, nous avons tous une vision de ce que doit être un bon père et la Bible nous dit que Dieu est un père qui nous aime et qui aime donner de bonnes choses à ses enfants.
   Nous pouvons aussi nous identifier à Jésus car il est devenu un homme. Nous le voyons guérir et servir avec compassion partout où il va. Nous pouvons imaginer sa bonté, son amour et sa volonté de monter au calvaire pour nous.
   Mais lorsqu’il s’agit de la troisième personne de la Trinité; l’Esprit Saint, nous ne sommes plus si sûrs. Ce qui ne nous aide pas est que la version de la Bible a traduit les versets concernant l’Esprit Saint par “Holy Ghost†(le fantôme saint).  Ceci rend l’Esprit Saint inquiétant voire effrayant.
   Dans le crédo, nous déclarons: “Je crois en l’Esprit Saint.â€Â Qu’est-ce que cela signifie de croire en l’Esprit Saint? Qui est-il et quelle est notre relation avec Lui?  Jésus nous dit qu’il enverrait “un autre avocat pour être avec nous à jamais.† Qu’est-ce que cela signifie que l’Esprit Saint est notre avocat, vivant dans chaque croyant ?
