A Song for those who are fearful – Psalm 27

psalms

We are in a series of messages where we have been seeing how the songbook of the OT people of God helps us to live life day by day in our relationship with God.

Post-moderns are generally into emotional honesty and sometimes think and act as if they are the first people to ever really be in touch with their feelings and be able to share them honestly with those around them.  But have you noticed how deeply honest the Psalmist is with his emotions?  In fact sometimes the things that are said nearly shock us because of how raw those emotions are.

In Psalm 27 David talks about his fears.  David is facing a difficult situation and he is feeling afraid, but he is also bringing that emotion out into the light in his relationship with God.  Instead of acting as if nothing is wrong and ignoring his fear, he prays his fear and in bringing it openly to God he discovers some elements that can help us when we are afraid.
