Life in the spirit

Next Sunday at Trinity:
We are starting a new series called “Life in the Spirit.” The work of God the son is clearly primary in the gospels. But from the day of Pentecost until the present, the emphasis is upon the work of God the Holy Spirit. Wasn’t the Holy Spirit around and at work in the Old Testament and the life of Jesus? Yes he was, yet the time that we now live in is so central to the life of the Holy Spirit that John describes the transition from Jesus going away and the Holy Spirit taking over as a “coming of the Holy Spirit” (John 7:39) or a “baptism of the Holy Spirit”.
I realize this morning that “baptism with the Holy Spirit” and the work of the Holy Spirit has been differently understood by Christians in our day. I do not say these things to divide or to exclude any believer. I think it is important to come to understand Scripture the best we can so we can obey it and follow it.
I want us to see who the Holy Spirit is and what He is doing in our world and how we can cooperate with the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our church.

Nous commençons une nouvelle série appelée « La vie dans l’Esprit ». L’œuvre de Dieu est clairement dans les Évangiles dans un premier temps. Mais depuis la Pentecôte jusqu’à ce jour, l’accent est mis sur l’œuvre de l’Esprit Saint. N’était-il pas déjà à l’œuvre dans l’ancien testament et pendant la vie de Jésus ? Oui il l’était, et pourtant l’époque à laquelle nous vivons est tellement importante pour l’Esprit Saint que Jean décrit la transition entre le départ de Jésus et l’Esprit Saint prennent le relai comme « l’arrivée de l’Esprit Saint » (Jean 7,39), ou un « baptême par l’Esprit Saint ».
Je me rend compte ce matin que le « baptême par l’Esprit Saint » ou l’œuvre de l’Esprit Saint sont souvent mal compris par les Chrétiens de notre époque. Je ne dis pas cela pour diviser ou exclure certains croyants. Je pense qu’il est important de comprendre les Écritures du mieux que nous pouvons afin d’y obéir et de les suivre.
J’aimerai que nous voyions qui est l’Esprit Saint, ce qu’il fait dans notre monde et comment coopérer avec lui dans nos vie et notre église.
