The men who came with their mama (Mat. 20:20-28)

We are spending these months looking at different people who encountered Jesus.  We come this Sunday to a very interesting story about a mother who came to Jesus because she wanted good things for her sons. She was concerned for their future. She wanted to see them succeed.  Did she put expectations upon them that were difficult for them?  We don’t know for sure but as we read the story we wonder if it was not so as this mama came to Jesus and the two grown sons don’t speak in this episode.

Being a parent can be a challenge but being a son or daughter who is respectful and honors his/her parents while at the same time finding the freedom to live one’s own life can also be a challenge.  So whether you are a parent or a child perhaps we can learn together from this story of the mama who came to Jesus with her sons hoping that Jesus would help them find a successful life.  Jesus did speak to them about success but it is a very different kind of success than we usually are expecting.

What is Jesus’ vision of success for our children or for ourselves?  Let’s see together.

Encounters

Voyons cela ensemble.
