   Death has been called “the new obscenity,†the nasty thing that no polite person nowadays will talk about in public. But death, even when unmentionable, remains inescapable. The one sure fact of life is that one day, with or without warning, quietly or painfully, it is going to stop and we will die. How will I then cope with death, when my turn comes? Since it is inevitable that is a valid question.
   Christians believe that the Jesus of Scriptures is alive and that those who know him as Savior, Lord and Friend find in this knowledge a way through all life’s problems, dying included. For we believe that Christ has gone before us into the grasp of death and the grave and has blown a hole into the side of death. Like a battleship that is sinking, death is itself dying even though it is not yet under the water.
   In the creed, we say, “Jesus died, and was buried; he descended into hell, and the third day he rose again from the dead.â€Â Can that really be true? If it is – it is the most important thing that has ever happened – ever! Let’s look at what the Scripture says about this.
   La mort fut appelée “la nouvelle obscénité,†la vilaine chose dont personne ne parle en public. mais la mort, même lorsqu’on ne la mentionne pas, demeure inévitable. Une seule chose est sûre à propos de la vie, c’est qu’un beau jour, avec ou sans avertissement, en douceur ou dans la douleur, cela s’arrêtera et nous mourrons. Comment faire face à la mort lorsque viendra notre tour? Puisqu’il est inévitable que cette question soit pertinente.
   Les Chrétiens croient que le Jésus des Écritures est vivant et que ceux qui le connaissent comme leur sauveur, Seigneur et ami trouvent en ceci un chemin à travers toutes les difficultés de la vie, la mort incluse. Car nous croyons que Christ est allé avant nous entre les mains de la mort, dans la tombe, et a percé le côté de la mort. Comme un bateau en train de couler, la mort elle-même est en train de mourir even bein qu’elle ne soit pas encore entièrement sous l’eau.
   Dans le Crédo, nous disons, “Jésus est mort, fut enterré; il descendit aux enfers, et le troisième jour il fur réssucité des morts.â€Â Cela peut-il être vrai? Si tel est le cas, il s’agit de la chose la plus importante qui soit ! Voyons ensemble ce que les Écritures en disent.
